Ironically, the cosmetics industry is one of the most polluting industries. Every year, around 120 billion pieces of plastic packaging from cosmetics ends up in landfills worldwide, of which only a fraction is recycled. This has to change.

Nature Bar was founded in 2020 in Amsterdam by me (Marlies van Heusden). During my stay in Latin America I saw with my own eyes the impact of our current (over)consumption. Piles of plastic waste as far as I could see before I could even reach the ocean. But also people who lived off the grid, and where still fully connection with nature. From leaf to root everything was used. Deep down in the Amazon there was no waste. And that inspired her. If they can do it there, why can’t we?

Marlies van Heusden founder and sustainable entrepreneur
With a background in marketing and an endless dose of curiosity, I founded Nature Bar to make an impact. I wanted to develop a purely natural product that was not only good for my skin but also for nature. That resulted in Nature Bar: high-quality care with a mission.
My mission did not go unnoticed: I was nominated for the Sustainable Young 100 and the Smart Sustainable Sisley Award – Marie Claire. In addition, Nature Bar appeared in BinnensteBuiten, Volkskrant Magazine, Parool, Marie Claire, LINDA, Libelle and Women’s Health.
